Replacing a head gasket is a long and dirty job. On the BABE Rally, however, is it an excuse for a party. On Day 3 of the 2011 BABE Rally members of no fewer than six other teams jumped in to join the “fun” of replacing the head gasket on Team Two Horsemen of the Carpocalypse’s car (a 1973 Plymouth Valiant) and everyone else stopped by to watch and lend moral support. It was a long night, but a rewarding one in many ways. Thanks again to Misfit Toys Racing for driving 55 miles to deliver the head gasket and then doing a big part of the install, and to everyone else who helped.

One short day in the 2010 BABE Rally had the teams trying to memorize hundreds of roadside signs and thousands of antique items in hopes of remembering enough to ace a memory test at the end of the day. In the 2011 BABE Rally, the shortest run involved a “mailbox chase” photo scavenger hunt along sixty miles of rural road that caused the team to lose its head. Well, its head gasket. Hopefully our Night 3 in Robbinsville, NC will be more restful than our Night 3 last year. […]
